Choosing the Right Shingles for Your Roof (Demo)

Your home needs a new roof, and this time you want to choose the very finest shingles that will last for years to come. There are several factors to consider when shopping for new shingles. First, talk to your neighbors about their roofs and notice if the shingles are marked with black streaks or stains, an indication of algae growth. If so, you should avoid that brand of shingle and the manufacturer.

At Rain-Go Exteriors, we carry the finest Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles. These shingles are treated with 3M Scotchgard Protector that will keep your roof looking like new for its entire lifetime. That’s well beyond the five to seven years for most other brands of shingles. In addition to the Scotchgard, Atlas shingles are embedded with copper-coated ceramic granules that prevent algae growth for the lifetime of the shingle. Each shingle is third-party laboratory tested to make sure the granules are evenly spread throughout the entire shingle.

Shingle Styles

No matter what type of roof you choose, there’s a shingle for you. If budget is a concern and you want a flatter, traditional-style roof, three-tab shingles would be a good choice. If you want thickness with a layered look, architectural, laminated or dimensional shingles could be more for you. For a strong but elegant look, asphalt slate shingles make the best of both worlds. They resemble slate but offer the affordability and low maintenance of asphalt. If you want to compare and contrast features, this page on the Atlas website can help you out.

Atlas Pinnacle Advantages

Algae-Resistant shingles aren’t affected by North Carolina humidity like those that weren’t manufactured with 3M Scotchgard Protector. Even after several years, you won’t see black streaks on these shingles.

Shingles that have a High-Wind Ratio can withstand winds up to 130 miles per hour, well over hurricane force, and still remain in place while retaining their like-new appearance.

Able to withstand North Carolina hailstorms, you can be confident your home is protected with Class 4 Impact-Resistant shingles.

Shingle Colors

After you’ve selected your shingle style and features, you’ll find it easier to choose the color. Three-tab and slate shingles come in a wide variety of colors. The choice of colors for architectural shingles is more limited but still large enough to please the most discriminating home owner.

You have virtually unlimited ways to mix and match the color of your shingles with your home. Maybe you want to match the color of your door, window trim or shutters. Matching the shingle color with that of the shutters is especially effective if the color of the siding is sharply different.

Light-colored shingles make a small home appear larger. Dark shingles make it look smaller and lower.

If you like contrasts that bring attention to your home, you could mix dark-colored shingles with a light-colored home or vice versa.

If your home is constructed of brick, it’s best to coordinate the shingle color with that of the brick. Dark grays, browns and black complement a red brick home. Stick to a single roof color if the brick is multicolored.

Another interesting idea is to match the color of the shingle with the style of your home. For example, natural shingles go well with such traditional historic architectural styles as Colonial or Victorian. Rustic and ranch-style homes are enhanced by grays, browns or weathered green.

Maybe you want to accentuate a particular feature of your home. For example, if you want your covered porch to stand out, choose a shingle color different from that of the siding on the porch. Also, a dark, neutral shingle color won’t overpower the natural elements of a stone wall.

Featuring high-wind and Class 4 impact resistance, Atlas Pinnacle Pristine high-performance designer architectural shingles are available in 15 rich, stunning colors. You can view the full selection of colors, pristine black, desert, dove, green, hearth tone, heather, hickory, oyster, pearl, pewter, sienna, sunset, tan, weathered wood or shadow, and how they’d look on a home right here on the Atlas website

In addition to the attractive colors, randomly-cut Pinnacle Pristine shingles feature oversized proportions and well-defined shadow lines that will make your home’s roof stand out above the others in your neighborhood.
